Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Where will my precious metals be stored?

A. Your metals will be stored in our state-of-the-art vaults located at 1437 42nd St S, Fargo, ND 58103. They will not leave our vault until we are directed to transfer part or all of your holdings by you or your authorized representative.

Q. Who can store precious metals in Dakota Depository Company’s (DDC) vault?

A. At DDC we store precious metals for individuals and commercial entities. We can also store metals for certain IRA, 401(k), Coverdell Education Savings, and Health Savings accounts – please ask us for more information if you are interested in any of these options.

Q. What is allocated storage?

A. Allocated storage means that all items held in custody for customers are physically located in our vault at all times, exactly where our customers expect them to be. All custodial precious metals are held off DDC’s balance sheet – these assets belong solely to our customers.

Q. Are the precious metals stored in DDC insured?

A. Yes, this is one of the primary benefits of custody storage when compared with a safe deposit box or keeping the items stored at home. DDC maintains “all-risks” insurance coverage on all the precious metals that are held in custody storage within our vault.

Q. Are there different types of storage arrangements with DDC?

A. No, all custody storage is both allocated and segregated.

Q. What is segregated storage?

A. Under segregated storage, DDC will store the precious metals of each customer separate and apart from the precious metals of all other customers. In other words we will not commingle one customer’s precious metals with those of other customers.

Q. How does DDC keep customers apprised of their precious metals deposits?

A. DDC provides customers with periodic statements that show the precious metals held in storage with DDC. The customer has up to 30 days to review the new statement and report any suspected errors, inaccuracies, or discrepancies.

Q. How often are billings sent out?

A. Billing statements are sent out after the end of each calendar quarter, calendar quarters end after March, June, September, and December.

Q. How are storage fees calculated for Standard Custody Accounts?

A. We have provided a Storage Fee Schedule located above to help explain the Standard Custody Account storage fees.

Q. How are storage fees calculated for IRA Custody Accounts?
